Osprey Landing on a Tufa, Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve
I photographed this scene late in the day on a spring 2025 trip to Mono Lake. Several ospreys circled around the lakeshore, landing regularly on a nest perched above a tufa formation in the lake. I decided to put my digital camera’s autofocus capabilities to good use by trying my hand at some wildlife photography. After tracking the birds several times, I had gained some sense of their routine. One of the birds would fly out away from shore, then circle around in a wide loop behind us before landing once again at their nest. I started tracking the birds through my camera’s viewfinder and readied myself for the exact moment when an osprey landed back at its nest. You can read more about that trip here.
Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for production and shipping of the print.
